2011

It is easy to look back over the last year and remember all the negative things that have happened but this is the time to reflect on all the positive things which have happened and take a moment to give thanks.
The main stream media seems intent on sending us negative news hour by hour but behind the scenes there is always positive news which never reaches the headlines.
We are lucky enough to hear from positive people everyday, those out there who are helping people to live their dreams, helping others to use their skills to help those less fortunate than ourselves, people working to protect the planet in fact the list is endless but without these people the International Lifestyle Magazine would not be as successful as it is.
This year we have seen a new cover launch, the International Real Estate Magazine and in February 2012 we launch the Austalian Lifestyle Magazine, again proof that there is plenty of positivity out there.
2012 can be a great year for everyone we just need to grab life by the hands and do something positive, we need to take control and move forward and push aside all the negativity.
Here is to positivity. xx

60 Minute Make Over In The Dinner Hall

You know it is going to be an eventful day when you arrive into the village to hear the ´new boy´screaming from inside the school. Something to do, so I understand, with a small plastic pink elephant, however, he was told that he would have to stay in the classroom as punishment until it was time to leave for the restaurant. This was going quite well until he took the decision to try and use a chair to break through the window to escape. I should point out here that this is an eight year old. Much fuss until finally he was allowed into the playground on the strict instructions that he behaved himself.

All was going well.

The village was full with people enjoying a drink in the brilliant sunshine, people carrying their shopping, stopping to chat or collect fresh water from the font, it was, quite simply wonderful.

So, off to the restaurant for the childrens lunch. I led the way into the restaurant, up the stairs and began making sure all the children had water to drink and then I heard that familiar sound. Here comes the new boy.

Obviously the salad was not up to scratch, much to the horror of all the other children this became a rather fetching decoration for the curtains. Next paella. He took one look and just as he was about to grab it and throw it, it was rescued by another dinner lady. This interception was not to his liking. He tried to run out of the restaurant, I managed to catch him and then had to get him out of my hair. He was basically hanging onto my pony tail with two hands whilst screaming in my ear. You really should get danger money for this job, and all to learn Spanish!

The owner of the restaurant rushed up and gave him a lolly, she did not seem to understand that she was basically rewarding him for being bad, however, she was soon wearing the lolly so that passed.

Finally he calmed down and sat down at the table. Spanish children do not know how lucky they are, a four course meal and a floor show, all that is missing is the opportunity for a dance.

Still back into the playground, lock the gates and let them just relax after their lunch. The village was buzzing with people eating in the sunshine, lots of chatter, laughter and the clutter of knives and forks.

I love living here, there really is never a dull moment.

Russell Brand Visits The Village!

As I sat in the village today enjoying a coffee in the sunshine before my run as dinner lady began, I said hello to lots of people. Mums, old men in their slippers wandering up the middle of the road, the cafe owners, a few passing dogs who clearly had somewhere important to go, I watched various groups of conversations happening throughout the street and then I saw the outline of something that had never been seen the village before.

I could see the long black hair, I could see a flash of yellow, but I could not work out exactly what it was.

As it drew closer the walk looked incredibly familiar, that sort of walk where people seem to be on a pogo stick, the hair flicking up and down. It was him I was sure of it.

He was wearing bright blue trousers, a bright blue shirt, a yellow waistcoast with a yellow tie and to top it all off, a yellow headband. I felt a moment of excitement, I mean the whole village almost came to a standstill. Conversations stopped, old ladies turned, nudging each other, tourists were reaching for their cameras. It was definately him.

As he drew closer something was wrong, he appeared to be pulling a trolly, that said it was also blue and yellow so it matched the whole outfit, and then I realised. I was looking at the substitute postman.

He strode up the middle of the road, overtaking the man in his slippers, and with his hair still bounching he faded into the horizon. A few moments passed, and then people carried on with their day.

I finished my coffee and went into the school. I wonder what will be thrown up the walls today.

Revolt In The Dinner Hall

I work as a dinner lady here in Spain, I do it because it enables me to learn Spanish, I get to know the children of the village and of course, you get into the real hub of the place if you are in the middle of it for a couple of hours a day, however, I may have caused a slight problem.

All the children are very interested in our animals. They like to see pictures, they have all been to visit and they are all waiting for the piglets to arrive so they can come and see them, and this has caused a slight problem.

Today pizza was served. My children, who are vegetarians, had a four cheese special the others had either salami or ham and cheese. All of them, except two of the older boys, refused to eat "Hamlet". "Who is Hamlet?" asked the owner of the restaurant. I had to explain that Hamlet was one of my pigs. The children folded their arms and refused to eat him! Whilst internally I was absolutely thrilled that they were beginning to see meat as an animal, the incredibly stern stare that I received from the owner was a little scary.

It had come to her attention that more and more children were refusing to eat pork, chicken, sausages in fact just about anything. She then went on to tell me that if children do not eat meat they will not grow. This coming from a lady who can only be 4ft as she looked up at me.

Still this moment was quickly broken by the new boy who managed to aim his pizza at the wall and as it slid down all hands were on deck to clear up, whilst he then began trying to get hold of everyone elses pizza to aim around the room.

Who would of thought that you could change the views of meat eaters just by a meet and greet afternoon. I have booked another at my house on Sunday!

The Village Life

I live in a little village in the mountain tops of Spain. I used to live in a town, very close to a big city and the difference is huge. Firstly, everyone knows everyone. Not in a nosey way but in a way that makes the village safe. New faces are noticed straight away, welcomed, but noted. It means that as I speak my children can walk their goats in the mountains and whilst I listen for their voices I know that they are safe. When I think back to how it was not even possible to let them play in the garden without constant supervision, it makes me realise how lucky we are and how life should be.

Every day is full of new surprises, new experiences, nearly all of them make me laugh.

We are having new pipes put into our village, at least I think that is what they are doing, everyone who is working on the job is someone I know, and today, great excitement, one of them was given a whistle to direct the traffic.(by traffic I mean the few cars who come into the village to drop children off at the local school which has a total pupil count of 70) and to say he is excited is an understatement. He blows his whistle with absolute pride, he is, of course, not actually directing the traffic which I realised as I came face to face with a tractor carrying my neighbours and their dog on a trip to the village, however, the point is, everything is great here.

No one is slightly interested in fashion, who is on the front pages of glossy magazines or anything remotely materialistic, all they are interested in is family, life and how the vegetables are doing. In short, it is simple and beautiful.

Everyone says hello to one another, everyone is greeted with a smile and it sets you up for the day. The Spanish are truly beautiful people.

I want to write stories for you to let you know what happens in this beautiful village so that you can get to know the characters of the village as well as I have.

The children have just returned now from their walk, the doneky is braying as he sees them and our food is ready. Simple life, beautiful life one that I wish you could all find and embrace. It feeds your soul and connects you in a way that can only be experienced by stepping into it.

Take The Time To Care.

All too often we are caught up in our own issues to notice that others may need your help.

It takes two minutes to stop and talk to someone, to remark on how well they are looking, what a nice dress they are wearing or how great their hair looks. Simple things but all things that go towards increasing confidence and self esteem.

Sometimes just taking a moment to touch their arm, to generate positivity to them through touch can help lift their mood, bring a smile to their face and make the day seem just that little bit better.

The next time you see someone that looks down or in need of a little interaction, just take a moment, the smile you see on their face as you leave them will give you both the gift of positive energy, and with positive energy we can achieve so much.

Truth, Honesty, Freedom

It has been a while since my last blog, to be honest, with so much going on in the world it has been difficult to express my feelings. To be honest, with natural disasters in particular, I cannot but help feel that Mother Nature is dealing with a world that needs cleansing, of course I watch the images and feel deeply for the people but then you look at nuclear reactors threatening the world even further and you start to see the reason for the cleanse.

We are a world consumed with greed. Money seems to be the only thing that keeps some people going. Take Libya. The UN has agreed to a no fly zone, they are helping the rebels to win their battle but I still feel that they do not give a hoot about the people and their needs, all they are worried about is the oil, again, back to money. I have seen no evidence of the UN rushing into countries where people are being killed everyday simply by voting incorrectly, I suspect they have nothing that the leaders of the world want or need.

The news is full of politicians presenting speech after speech and ultimately saying nothing. Behind closed doors they spend weeks working out how they can take control, with them telling those who listen that their main concern is the people, when we all know they are working out how they can get their hands on the oil and the money whilst appearing to be acting under humanitarian concern.

The last few months have shown us what nature can do, it has shown us just how greedy the powers are that run the world and it has shown us that when people join forces they can achieve anything.

I hope the people in the middle east achieve what they want, the basic needs of life. They just want a roof, warmth, food and safety for their families and shame on the rest of the world who are using this as an opportunity to fill their wallets.

I hope the people in Japan find peace, I hope they see that even in their time of absolute need that in order to maintain control their governments have lied to them about the concerns of the nuclear reactors and I only hope that their lies to not explode into a massive problem in a few years time when the effects of radiation will start to show.

What is lacking in this world is honesty. No one is honest. No one really cares, so those of us who do need to do more, we need to raise questions, speak out and thank our lucky stars that we can write what we like without the fear of being removed from society.

Take time today to thank God, or whoever you pray to, for what you have. Freedom.

Just Do It!

The world is currently in crisis. This is nothing new really there is always something that needs dealing with but the images from Egypt have been incredibly powerful and have demonstrated just what the power of belief can achieve.

It also demonstrated that we can all achieve what we desire through the power of belief and by following that which we really believe.

There are many stories of people who have achieved so much through following their passion, they have over come the critics, pushed aside the negative remarks and simply pulled up their sleeves and kept on their path.

It can be difficult at times, of course it can, when you keep hearing that what you are doing is ridiculous or how you should think about getting a real job, but keep reminders around you about what you are going to achieve, how you are going to do it. For me personally, keep pictures and notes on a special place in your house (mine is on the kitchen wall) to keep you focused,to keep that visualisation alive but above all, never stop believing in yourself and you will succeed.

The Hidden Beauty

It is incredibly easy to go about our business without taking a single moment to look at the beauty around us. No matter where you live there will be beauty, it may a view, it could be a bird singing in a tree or the first sign of blossom on the trees but whereever you are it is there.

Just by taking a moment to admire the beauty of nature you will be taking a moment for yourself which is a form of meditation and even if you step out of your world for just a minute it will help you.

Appreciating nature can be incredibly uplifting, it shows strength that no matter what is thrown at it, it will win, think of battle fields where the flowers still push through, or the single green leaf that appears out of world disasters. It teaches us that no matter what happens we can overcome it, that we all have inner strength, that we can all survive.

We are all one with nature, their skills are our skills, we just need to recognise them and use and be held back by nothing.

Have a wonderful day!

Blue Monday, What On Earth Is That?

The news in the UK is filled today with how this is the gloomiest day and how everyone will feel fed up throughout this day! I have to say, if you keep saying that you will feel like that so why on earth do we not have the happiest day, or presenters offering us news that will give us a lift and make us feel great.

I flicked through several channels early this morning, when people are at their most vulnerable including the BBC, ITV, CCN and many more.

How we feel is a state of mind. If you walk around feeling down, moaning about everything, seeing the bad in everything obviously you are going to feel awful. What we need to be doing is looking at all the positives in the world, identifying all the great things about our own lives and building on these feelings.

The media is great at bringing people down, controlling them using emotions that can only lead to a demotivated society. When society is demotivated it is easier to bring in changes that we may otherwise stand up against but if you feel down you generally do not have the energy to stand up and we start to accept more and more. The same applies to your own life.

If you feel down you will allow more and more negativity into your life. Someone may say something to you that makes you feel, well in short horrible, but without the energy you do not confront the remarks, you simply accept them.

Put a smile on your face, confirm to yourself what is great about you and no matter what the media or anyone else tells you, this is a great day and you only accept positivity, you reject any negativity, because you love life, you love yourself and you want only happiness and peace for your future no matter how hard others try to restrict it.

No Goal Is Too Big.

I often hear people saying how much they would like to do something, be something or get something and yet their is often that sound to their voice that almost gives up before they even start.

Anything in life is possible but only you can achieve your goals. You need to identify what it is that you want and then work out the process of how to get there. What do you need to do? What help do you need? How are you going to do it? You also need to ask yourself the honest question as to why you want it, by which I mean, is it something you really want or are you trying to impress someone else. Success comes from believe and passion, if your goals are based on trying to please others you will often fail because your faith and passion simply is not in it.

So, this weekend ask yourself what it is that you really want followed by working out how you are going to do it. No problems, just solutions. Never give up just because you think you do not have enough money or time, all of this comes to you as you start to move forward. Be realistic, understand that it may take time but I assure you, when you get their the sense of pride in your achievements will simply be fantastic.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Points, Calories, Green Food & Red Food, BMI it goes on and on

If you are unhappy with how you look and feel you can take control and deal with it.

I am not interested in how much you weigh or even how much you think you should weight, in my opinion there are no set rules it is simply about feeling great.

Most weight issues go much deeper than just eating too much so even if you stick to a diet and reduce your weight you will probably end up back where you started without dealing with the real problem first.

When I work with people who are overweight we never even discuss food for the first couple of weeks, it is about establishing when the problem began, finding the trigger, finding out what people are currently eating and moving forward from here.

You need to start building your confidence and self esteem which will not be gained simply by reducing your weight.

I have no interest in calories or what ideal weights should be based against height. Everyone is different, your body will find its perfect weight without constantly standing on scales to see if you have lost weight.

One of the biggest problems with loosing pounds is stress and standing on your scales every morning just adds to your stress and will prevent you getting into balance.

So, if you want to get back into balance talk to me, you will not find the answer in a pre prepared meal, a magazine suppliment or anything else promising you success. The success is in you, and you alone and if you want to move forward feeling healthy and confident both on the inside as well as the outside let me know.

Have a wonderful weekend!

What A Fantastic Day!

If we start the day with positive thinking we can be pretty sure that the rest of the day will go on to be positive.

Start by looking in the mirror in the morning. It is easy to start the day by saying how tired you look, or how your hair could do with a tidy up, but this just leads to a day of feeling less positive on your overall outlook.

Start your day by making a promise to yourself that today will be a positive day, that their are no problems only solutions, that this will be a fantastic day.

The moment any negativity enters your head simply reject it. Your energies should be put into positivity at all time. Negativity feeds on your energy and once it gets a hold it will continue to feed until you feel exhausted. Take control of negativity and do not allow it in.

I know that live throws problems at us but letting them take a hold, making us feel less confident and therefore affecting our self esteem does nothing. Taking control and actually reacting to problems in a positive way increases our confidence and therefore our self esteem and with a hightened self esteem we can do anything.

Today is a fantastic day and it is only going to get better.

Live For Today.

It is incredible how people plan so far ahead. Now I do realise that some things need planning but to be honest worrying about what is going to happen next week, next month, next year really does nothing except bring us stress.

What we all need to do is focus on the here and now, making sure that each day is a worth while day. Not to be morbid but who says we are going to be here next week, next month or next year.

Our time should be spent taking in every moment, finding the positive in everything we can.

If there is something you really need then find a picture of it, or draw one, and stick it on a wall. This becomes your vision board and just by it being here, if it is meant to be it will find its way to you without the need for stress and worry.

If you think that sounds nuts just try it. I am not promising that it will happen over night but when things do happen take a moment to realise how it happened and say a big thanks and go on living for today, remember, tomorrow never comes.

The news is simply loaded with information on the weather conditions around the world and it has to make you wonder.

The word ´biblical´has been used in the media and no matter what your believes you have to ask what is happening.

Australia has flooded covering a space the size of Germany and France combined. People have lost everything and now the crocs and snakes are moving in. Arizona has snow, the UK reached minus levels that fell below that of the artic. Russia is a frozen wilderness, disease has started spreading amoungst humans, birds are falling from the sky in their 1000´s, fish are dying and floating on the rivers. Volcanos have caused havoc with travel and health.

What we need to do now, in my opinion, is to start thinking outside the box of comfort and start thinking about our future.

In the event that something like this happens to you, you have to be prepared. You need to have drinking water on standby, you need to have foods that do not need electricity to store, you need to ensure that you can keep warm without the use of electricity or mains gas.

If this all sounds a little bit out there, just look around the planet. Who says you will be safe where you are?

There is nothing we can do to stop what Mother Nature decides, so be prepared, open your eyes and make sure that if and when the time comes you are ready. What you see from your windows may not always look the same in the future.

Vouchers To Make You Healthy?

I read today that the UK government are planning to hand out 50 pound vouchers to help people get healthy and avoid obesity but aren´t they missing the point?

People who are overweight are not going to suddenly become fit and healthy because of a few vouchers designed to help them buy frozen vegetables and alcohol free beer at a lower cost. What these people need is time to understand why they are overweight, to understand the root cause of the problem, followed by an education on what foods can do for you along with clear demonstrations on how to prepare the food.

Most overweight people do not eat nearly enough food, the problem is the food they do eat is not feeding them on a nutritional level so they constantly feel hungy so they eat something else that will only give them a short term solution before they feel hungry again.

You cannot solve the problem of obesity with vouchers, money needs to be spent to work with people, to engage them into the idea of eating well, to scrap the idea of calories or points but to show people that eating well means you are always full and satisfied and that in fact, it is actually much cheaper to eat well and therefore to feel well.

This is, once again, just a band aid solution.

If you, or anyone else you know, is interested in changing how you look and feel then they can contact me, or any other holistic nutritionist, who will help get the whole you back into balance for a long term solution. cblmedia@gmail.com
